Megyn Kelly vs. Jane Fonda: The scratching continues
NBC's Megyn Kelly on Monday blasted actress Jane Fonda for criticizing her, bringing up her "offensive" criticism of the US during the Vietnam War.
Megyn Kelly responded Monday to Jane Fonda's continued criticism of Kelly over a question the host asked Fonda about her plastic surgery in September. Fonda appeared on Kelly's show with Robert Redford to promote their film, "Our Souls at Night". Last week, Fonda was on the Today show again, this time with Lily Tomlin.
Megyn Kelly's war of words with Jane Fonda went nuclear Monday morning, just the latest development in their ongoing feud.
Fonda went on to fire off a harsher salvo at Kelly's expense during a separate interview with Variety, during which they discussed last September's on-air incident.
In the final 10 minutes of "Megyn Kelly Today", she reeled off clip after clip, "Daily Show"-style, of Ms. Fonda talking openly about her plastic surgery in past interviews".
"It's time to address the poor-me routine", Kelly said. "If Fonda wants to have a discussion about older women's cultural face", Kelly said, "then her plastic surgery is tough to ignore". "She knows this, and that is why, to her credit, she's discussed her cosmetic surgery pretty much everywhere before coming on our show".
"But I have no regrets about the question".
"Look at her treatment of our military during the Vietnam war, many of our veterans still call her 'Hanoi Jane' thanks to her radio broadcasts which attempted to shame American troops. Also, if Jane Fonda is so terrible and offensive and an America hater why did Megyn have her on?"
Kelly said in conclusion, "So, the moral indignation is a little much. And honestly she has no business lecturing anyone on what qualifies as offensive".
Jane Fonda is Hollywood royalty for her family name, for her own films, and of course for her far left politics.
"She said the same to 'Entertainment Tonight, ' " said Kelly, referring to Fonda's openness about her history.
"Everybody in the control room gasped when Megyn brought up Hoda's 'dark period, ' because many viewers likely won't know exactly what she was referring to", an NBC source told the gossip publication.
"For years, [Fonda] has spoke about the joy of giving a cultural face to older women", Kelly said. "Fonda knows this - she knows this - which is why, to her credit, she has discussed her plastic surgery nearly everywhere, before coming on our show". She later publicly apologized for her actions.
But Kelly on Monday not only defended her interview with Fonda, but questioned the actress' patriotism. Shortly after, however, producers quickly tweeted out the segment before Kelly even came on air, according to Fox News.
