Murphy Signs Another Executive Order on First Full Day in Office

People wait in line to attend the inauguration of the New Jersey governor in Trenton N.J. Tuesday Jan. 16 2018. Democrat Phil Murphy will become the state's 56th governor succeeding Republican Chris Christie after he is sworn in at the War Memori

We are one state with common goals.

The former Wall Street executive and political newcomer becomes the state's 56th governor, succeeding Republican Chris Christie, after he is sworn in at the War Memorial in Trenton Tuesday. Tax revenue from legal marijuana could net hundreds of millions of dollars. Murphy said he would resist every move from Trump and what he called "a misguided Republican Congress". As President Kennedy once said, "we celebrate not the victory of party but the celebration of freedom".

He did not take questions after signing the order.

"We need women to be paid for what they've worked whether or not it was yesterday, or whether or not it was five years ago".

Last year, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio signed an executive order doing the same thing for city agencies, and MA enacted legislation that banned employers from asking a potential employee about their salary history, both for the public and private sectors.

Murphy says the order covers his administration's code of conduct.

Murphy is a former Goldman Sachs executive who served as the US ambassador to Germany in the Obama administration. "I'm not responsible for invitations to the royal wedding".

Oliver will head the state's Department of Community Affairs will serve as acting governor whenever Murphy is out of state.

New Jersey's current minimum wage is $8.60 in January.

Afterward, Senate President Steve Sweeney (D-Gloucester) said New Jersey is now set up to serve as a national model for policies that blend "progressive values with fiscal responsibility". His election places the governor's office in Democratic hands for the first time since 2009.

This Order, effective February 1, aims to address gender pay inequity-one of 29 issues expressly articulated on Gov. Murphy's campaign website.

Murphy, 60, a former USA ambassador to Germany and Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
