Government, citing ruling, again will accept requests for DACA protection

Federal Judge Relies on Presidential Tweets to Block DACA Phase Out and Prevent Job Losses

On Saturday morning, Trump tweeted, "I don't believe the Democrats really want to see a deal on DACA".

DACA has protected about 800,000 people who were brought to the US illegally as children or came with families who overstayed visas, and the program includes hundreds of thousands of college-age students.

While Democrats have expressed openness to a deal that would combine legal status for "dreamers", as the group of young immigrants brought illegally as children are known, with funding for border security measures, Republicans have tried to broaden the talks.

President Donald Trump on Sunday sent out a tweet in which he said DACA is "probably dead". "I think he is a racist". Republicans at the meeting mostly have declined to discuss the talks in detail.

"In the course of his comments (Mr. Trump) said things that were hate-filled, vile and racist". I want safety and security for our people.

The sole Democratic participant in the Oval Office meeting, Senate Minority Whip Richard J. Durbin of IL, told reporters Friday that Trump had used the vulgar word "not just once but repeatedly" during the meeting. They are doing nothing to fix DACA.

The president sought to shift from the defensive by portraying Democrats as not truly interested in an immigration deal.

"DACA is probably dead because the Democrats don't really want it, they just want to talk and take desperately needed money away from our Military", he wrote.

"I want a merit based system of immigration and people who will help take our country to the next level".

Republican Senator David Perdue, who was at the same White House meeting and had said he did not recall whether Trump made the comment, was more explicit Sunday.

A bipartisan group of Republican and Democratic senators working to find a compromise to coincide with a looming spending bill vote on January 19, announced Thursday they had reached a tentative agreement on an immigration bill that addresses several issues, including border security and allowing young undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S.as children, known as "Dreamers", to permanently legalize their status. "Wall was not properly funded, Chain (migration) & (Diversity Visa) Lottery were made worse and US would be forced to take large numbers of people from high crime countries which are doing badly", he wrote Friday on Twitter. The dreamers would be allowed to stay but not become U.S. citizens, according to Flake.

The move unfolds as US District Judge William Alsup issued a preliminary injunction this week blocking President Trump's decision to end the Obama-era program.

But a federal judge in California temporarily blocked the administration's decision while state lawsuits against the government play out in court.

Efforts to extend the program are further complicated because it could make a funding bill to avert a government shutdown due Friday more hard.
