Japan Pledges $3 Million To Myanmar For Rohingya Return

Agence France-Presse

But the military has insisted that there has been no wrongdoing by any security forces.

After two attacks in last two years each by the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army, whom government declared as "terrorist organization", the Tatmadaw conducted clearance operations in the northern Rakhine, which drew criticism from overseas, accusing Myanmar's security forces of committed human rights abuses.

The results of an internal military investigation found that soldiers, along with local villagers, were culpable for the deaths of the Rohingya, who the military labeled "terrorists", according to a statement posted to the Facebook page of Myanmar's Commander-in-Chief.

Aung San Suu Kyi said she knows the global community has great interest in the Rohingya issue. According to the statement, there were "no conditions" to hand the ten captured "bengali terrorists" over to the police, so "it was chose to kill them". They are widely called "Bengalis" and are accused of migrating illegally from Bangladesh.

Inn Din villager Wal Marjan, 30, said they were attacked by Rakhine mobs flanked by soldiers, who later "selected 10 to 15 men to attend a meeting".

Myanmar's army launched a sweeping offensive in the north of the western state of Rakhine in response to Rohingya militant attacks on August 25, triggering an exodus of more than 650,000 Rohingya villagers to Bangladesh.

The village of Inn Din previously featured in a chilling report by Amnesty International, which contains eyewitness accounts from seven villagers who described how vigilantes and the military looted and burned homes and shot people as they fled.

The villagers assisted in the execution, according to the statement, because they wanted revenge on the Rohingya militants who had killed their family members in the past.

Myanmar terms Rohingya Muslims as Bengalis and does not recognise them as one of its ethnic groups. Myanmar denies that, saying its forces were carrying out legitimate "clearance operations" against insurgents.

The military statement claimed the killing of U Maung Ni by the terrorists and the continuing threat to ethnic people bred retaliatory attitudes, which eventually led the killings.

Its military's statement comes after a long denial of mischief towards the minority.

Human rights groups have denounced systematic state sponsored violence against the religious group and ethnic minority, which includes mass murders, rape, laying landmines, and burning entire villages that has driven more than 655,000 Rohingya refugees into Bangladesh.
