Liverpool's Rhian Brewster reveals Steven Gerrard's support over racial abuse

Liverpool academy player Rhian Brewster was upset after being subjected to racist abuse against Spartak Moscow

The Football Association lent its full support to Rhian Brewster, the leading scorer in England's Under-17 World Cup victory earlier this year, over his claims of suffering racial abuse and said it would push for "appropriate response from the relevant authorities".

The 17-year-old, who is yet to feature for Liverpool's first team, says he has witnessed racial abuse - either aimed at him or a teammate - seven times this year."I don't think UEFA take this thing seriously".

Brewster told Thursday's edition of The Guardian that Uefa have yet to hold an inquiry into an incident involving Russian side Spartak Moscow three weeks ago, when he claims he was the target of a racist remark by opposing captain Leonid Mironov.

The 17-year-old Brewster is one of the brightest talents to come through at Anfield in recent years and starred for England Under-17s as they became world champions in the summer.

"He [the referee] said to me he couldn't do anything because he hadn't heard it and "the only thing I can do is report it".

"I'm thinking to myself: 'Well, I'm standing behind a banner but does it really stop them from saying it?'" It needs more severe punishments. "He will get all the support he needs and wants and that we can give", Klopp said. "That is how it feels anyway, like it has been brushed under the carpet", he said.

"I'm really long in this business, in this sport, and I've never faced a situation like that". I was walking down the tunnel swearing: 'F*** the system, it's not going to do anything.' Obviously you have to (make a complaint).

"I am really happy he is fearless enough, and he needed to be courageous, to do what he did because it is such an important thing", Klopp told The Guardian.

"I really can't believe that people still have these thoughts in their mind". We needed a 17-year-old boy to show that it still happens and that it's happening all the time.

"I told Steven Gerrard (Liverpool's Under 19 coach) what had happened and we made a complaint there".
