Veteran anchor Amanda Davis dies after massive stroke
- Amanda Davis, who has been a staple of television news in Atlanta for decades, has suffered a stroke. She was rushed to a hospital and underwent treatment there before she died Wednesday.
However, Davis returned to work at CBS46 in January of this year, with the company releasing a statement following her death, which read: "Her family is asking for privacy at this hard time".
Amanda Davis, 62, who had spent 26 years at Fox5 Atlanta, said on Facebook that her "pops" had passed last week.
WGCL-TV revealed that their former employee passed away surrounded by her family and loved ones, and also stated that during this time of grief, Davis' family is "asking for privacy at this hard time". It added that Davis' friends and colleagues at the channel were praying for her family.
During her career, Davis has won multiple Southeast Emmy Awards and an Edward R. Murrow Award. We thought she retired then she fought her way through to get back to doing what she loved.
In recent years, she had talked publicly about her struggles with alcohol and depression after her third arrest on DUI charges, and did an in-depth series about her alcoholism in 2016.
As news of Davis' death spread, people offered tributes on Twitter. 'I wanted to believe that there was still a way they could help me control it'. "She will truly be missed". 'She will be remembered for that, for having the strength to persevere and overcome'.
The award-winning journalist was on her way to her stepfather's funeral.
