What to do with that Christmas tree now that Christmas is done

Edwardsville Township collecting Christmas trees

The program, which began in 1988, collects discarded Christmas trees which are then chipped into mulch and offered to the public at no cost.

The city of Aurora is offering several locations to drop off Christmas trees through January 8.

Trying to figure out what to do with leftover Christmas Trees?

When its time to take down those Christmas decorations and you're wondering what to do with that leftover Christmas tree, consider donating it to build a fish habitat!

There will be four drop-off locations for NHC residents. Only live trees are accepted - no wreaths.

The county also teams up with the city of Charlottesville, chipping trees collected through the city's curbside pick-up program.

Most US Christmas tree farms are situated in the foothill elevations of OR and North Carolina, and over half of those grown in the two states come from just six counties - two in North Carolina and four in Oregon.

But those trees will end up in the landfill along with the approximate 210,000 tons - that's 420 million pounds - of waste we put into the Laubscher Meadows landfill in Vanderburgh County every year.

While most Americans know little about where and how these trees are grown - and most of the cut trees will be kicked to the curb in the two weeks following Christmas - the iconic scent and beauty of the conical evergreen remains the key domestic symbol of Western Winter holidays.

St. Petersburg residents may also drop off their undecorated trees at one of the city's five brush sites for free.

All ornaments, lights and anything other than the natural tree must be removed.
