Risky chills, followed by more snow

ARCTIC BLAST: 2 waves of very cold air take aim on Middle Tennessee

Temperatures early Tuesday hovered near zero, and unsafe wind chill values below zero were expected to persist throughout the day, according to the National Weather Service.

According to NWS, Tuesday's afternoon temperatures are only expected to reach a high of 12 degrees with a -3 wind chill. The cold wind chills will cause frostbite in as little as 15 minutes to exposed skin.

NWS urges residents to wear warm attire such as hats and gloves.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around -11.

"We have an Arctic air mass that just came in", said Trent Frey, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service forecast office in White Lake Township. Things will clear up tomorrow as that storm moves out of our area, but more winter weather rolls in on Wednesday and the next round of snow will begin.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, NWS issued a second statement Tuesday morning that accumulating snow is possible Friday night into Saturday night. Add a wind chill, and it will feel like the single digits. Northwest winds 0-5 miles per hour.

"Very cold wind chills expected", reported the weather service. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent.

Wednesday Night: Snow likely, mainly before midnight. Northwest winds 5-15 miles per hour.

Meanwhile, as snow showers made some roads slippery Sunday, Wisconsin Department of Transportation officials warned motorists to slow down on the state's highways.
