Rafa Benitez targets January signings after Newcastle winless run extends

Arsenal will be hoping to return to winning ways following a defeat and two draws recently

"We're a team that has pace and quality". I was asking four or five players about it and they were very clear, 'Oh no, we can not and that was it.

Benítez is undergoing one of the worst spells of his managerial career as Newcastle have slipped to 16th in the table, one point above the relegation zone after losing seven and drawing one of their last eight league games and could drop into the bottom three if defeated by Arsenal at the Emirates on Saturday.

"We need to get those points back on the board and continue from there", Elliot added.

The fans know the team will be tough.

The Magpies were dominated by Arsenal in the first half, as the Gunners had a number of chances to extend their lead further, however, they failed to take any of those chances.

"I think we reacted really well..." "When you get to this stage of the season..."

With takeover talks at the club continuing, Benitez was asked how he will guide Newcastle out of their recent rut, to which he told Sky Sports: "We will keep working harder and improve little things that have to change". Many fans questioned manager Rafa Benitez's decision to start him ahead of Dwight Gayle, who has scored three goals in his last five games. "We had plenty of chances".

"They want to give a very clear message that they care and they want to do things right".

"Our situation is that we did so well for a while (early in the season) that everybody was expecting that we could be in the top ten, but we knew that this team, coming back from the Championship a year ago and doing the things that we did (ED: and didn't do...) in the summer, had to be near the bottom of the table".

"Now we have to put things right, make sure that we continue with this mentality and spirit, playing better if we can".

After their unfortunate tryst with de Gea, Arsenal went on to play Southampton and West Ham, before this weekend's Newcastle clash.
