PUBG on Xbox One Makes Compromises, But Runs Well

Screenshot is from the PC version of the game

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is out now for the Xbox One and for a game in early access, it gets a lot right. It's rare to see Microsoft use its own studio's time to aid in PUBG Xbox One development, which could in itself imply a longer than expected delay to a PS4 release date if at all.

The video below is a real-life rendition of the tense plane ride on the way to the "PUBG" island, which Xbox One players can fight on soon this Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Yet despite the fact they've bent over backwards to ensure the game has made its way unscathed to console, my first few matches played out completely differently with the new control scheme that what I've grown used to over my 100+ hours with the game on PC.

"Fallout 4 VR." The trend of taking huge hits from the past couple of years and re-releasing them as virtual-reality games continues with Bethesda's return to Vault 111. The graphics are also noticeably improved, closer to the PC version's high settings, and the pop-in and draw distance issues are better - it's not quite matching a high-end PC's performance, but it's almost there, and certainly performs much better than the S or regular versions. Hey, just like PUBG on PC until recently. That being said, you will likely want to wait a bit for before diving in as the version available today is not providing a quality gaming experience.

A first-person mode would have served as a better introduction to the gameplay, since you won't have to worry about the bad setup for dual-aiming that much.

Unfortunately, PUBG Corp has not yet responded to the outages here at launch and we'll update this story as they do.

And then there is aiming, unlike every other FPS where you have to hold the left trigger to ADS (aim down sights), in PUBG, you tap the trigger and it stays in the ADS position until you tap it again.

Currently, the Xbox One version only features third person gameplay, as well.
