Facebook Messenger Gets Snapchat-Like 'World Effects' AR Stickers

Facebook Messenger World Effects bring Snapchat-like AR stickers

Facebook clearly doesn't want any significant Snapchat feature to go unanswered.

Making use of Messenger's newly-scored feature sounds like a pretty easy and intuitive task. Unlike the already-present camera filters that let you put on different masks and effects on your selfies, the new additions to the app allow you to throw in a dynamic object that sticks to an augmented plane and gives the impression of intelligently following a predefined path. Now, instead of just sending your loved ones a static image or standard video, you can spice up your messages with 3D objects that can be dropped anywhere in the vicinity of the camera in your device. Facebook's Messenger, which on December 12 announced a brand-new AR-focused feature: World Effects.

Here is also a short video by Facebook.

To use the World Effect in the media content you like to share, open the Camera in your messenger within the existing conversation or from the inbox by tapping the camera icon, and then just scroll to choose from the added camera effects.

The basic idea is that you can drop 3D objects into your photos to make them appear as though they're there in real life, such as a heart over someone's head. Initially, world effects will include objects like a floating heart, an arrow, a 3D Robot and an Unicorn. "Pick an effect and then tap to add it to your image".

AR Studio was introduced in April at Facebook's F8 conference as part of the Camera Effects platform, and since then, it's been in closed beta, with only about 2,000 brands and developers able to build on it.

Facebook has announced five new ways Facebook and Messenger will aim to help users spread the season's greetings: 1. Apart from launching World Effects, Facebook has made yet another announcement where it has announced that it is opening its AR Studio to developers.
