Student Victims Of Shooting Near Graham, Washington High School Expected To Survive

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported that two students were shot at Graham Kapowsin High School in Graham. One student was found near the football field and another in a locker room reports say

Authorities said two students were shot near the school Tuesday afternoon.

Sheriff's deputies in Washington state are searching for two teenagers suspected of shooting a pair of male students near a high school in the small city of Graham on Tuesday. The incident may be gang-related, and the shooters are not believed to be from the Graham area.

The Pierce County sheriff's office said one student was found in the parking lot by the Graham-Kapowsin High School football field and another was found in a locker room.

The sheriff's department says it still does not have a motive for the shooting, but they believe it started as an arranged off-campus fist fight that turned into a shooting.

A woman who claimed to be the mother of one of the victims wrote on Facebook that her son was shot four times and insisted that her son was not a gang member, 'but an innocent bystander along with the other boy that was shot'.

The high school is located at 108th Avenue East and Eustis Hunt Road East in Graham, in Pierce County, and the gunshots were reportedly fired on the Eustis Hunt Road side of the campus.

There was no immediate word on the students' conditions, but both were sent to local hospitals.

The suspects fled the scene in a green Chevy Impala. Frontier Middle School, Graham Elementary School and Nelson Elementary School were also locked down during the initial investigation. "We are following direction from the Pierce County Sheriff's Department and are relying on them for additional information at this point".

"I was actually kinda calm because we've been trained since really early on to know what to do in these situations", said Graham-Kapowsin ninth-grader James Baker.

The shooting occurred just after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday outside of the school. Gutierrez also revealed how he got a text from his son saying he can't leave the school as they are going on lockdown.

Graham-Kapowsin High School had 1,855 students during the 2014-2015 school year.

Troyer said the Sheriff's Office obtained a search warrant to enter the home where the second suspect was arrested.
