Watch Multiple Angles Of The Implosion Of Atlanta's Georgia Dome

TV crew was set to record Georgia Dome implosion, then the bus ...

The Weather Channel was perfectly set up to watch the Georgia Dome implosion Monday morning - but they were not prepared for what happened next.

The dome opened in 1992, and it was flattened within about 15 seconds.

The sound of the implosion could be heard all over Intown as the 25-year-old stadium collapsed. A vast debris cloud hovered over the site before slowly drifting across downtown.

In the video you can see the blasts go off in a spiral around the stadium.

The once 80,000-seat stadium closed earlier this year as the Atlanta Falcons moved next door to the Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The Georgia Dome... before and after.

Still, in the modern sports era, building a new stadium is the way to guarantee major events coming to your city. "If this is the biggest story, we're really glad about that", Metro Atlanta Regional Transit Authority (MARTA) chief marketing and communications officer Goldie Taylor told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The idea for the Georgia Dome dates to the mid-1980s, when civic leaders recommended a domed football stadium adjoining the citys largest convention centre, the Georgia World Congress Center.

In addition to hosting the Falcons, the Peach Bowl, and the SEC Championship, the Georgia Dome has also hosted two Super Bowls, the 1996 Olympics, three NCAA men's Final Fours and a women's Final Four.
