Padmavati row: Kshatriya Mahasabha burns effigies of Deepika, Bhansali

Rajat Sharma on Padmavati

He also brings to notice how the recent incident with IFFI where two of the previously decided films, S Durga and Nude were dropped out of the festival's screening without being discussed with the jury makes him regret a video he did with IFFI earlier.

In a statement to PTI today, the makers of "Padmavati", Viacom18 Motion Pictures, announced they had "voluntarily" deferred the release of the magnum opus.

Some Hindu groups have been protesting against the movie's release while some political outfits have demanded that its release be deferred given the Gujarat Assembly elections. He writes, "I was told by many industry leaders that it was a wise strategy to delay #Padmavati. And get their approval?"

The revised date of release will be announced soon, the makers said.

On Friday, the CBFC chose to send the film back to its makers citing "deficiency in the application".

Censor Board chief Prasoon Joshi had yesterday slammed the makers for allowing the film to be screened for various media channels before obtaining a certificate from the board.

The film features Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles.

The film has been mired in controversy over conjectures that it "distorts history" regarding Rajput queen Padmavati, a contention that Bhansali has repeatedly denied. "It is freaky! The whole "Padmavati" row is based on just presumptions".

Advani tweeted, "First they came for..."

If you're wondering why I am mentioning something completely out-of-context, here's the deal: Amidst all tensions and controversies, certain people on Twitter have found the silver lining in the situation and have been taking on the Karni Sena's threats to Deepika in the most hilarious ways.
