Russian Federation accuses U.S. of not attacking Daesh in Syria town

When Russian's Ministry of Defense first tweeted out the "evidence", they did so in multiple languages, but not all of those are available any longer.

This week, Russian Federation took to social media to announce it had "irrefutable evidence" that the United States is helping ISIS.

"However, the American side has failed to answer the question asked by the Russian side: why the ISIS terrorists left Syria on combat vehicles with heavy armament were regrouping in the coalition-controlled territories and preparing for new attacks [.]", said the statement.

The posts included several aerial images supposedly backing Russia's claim, including one labeled: "ISIS automobile convoy leaves Abu Kamal for Syrian-Iraqi border (November 9th, 2017)".

Conflict Intelligence Team, a group of Russian online investigators who factcheck claims by the Russian military, said that the other four of the five photographs appear to be taken from 2016 footage released by Iraq's ministry of defence, depicting the Iraqi air force bombing Isis targets near Falluja.

In fact, it was taken from a 2015 promotional video showing AC-130 Gunship Simulator: Special Ops Squadron, a mobile game in which players fire at ground targets from a USA warplane.

A report from Russian state news agency TASS says that a civil service employee "erroneously attached wrong photo illustrations" to the defense ministry's social media posts.

A spokesperson for the Russian defence ministry told media it was "carrying out checks on a civilian employee who mistakenly added photographs to the ministry's statement".

Responding to Russia's allegations in remarks carried by Reuters, a spokesman for the US-led coalition Col Ryan Dillon said the Russian allegations were "about as accurate as their air campaign". "So, again that is pretty consistent with what we have seen come out of Russian MoD, as being baseless, inaccurate and you know, completely false", he said. A scene in a documentary about Putin made by the USA film-maker Oliver Stone showed Putin playing the director video footage on a telephone of what he said were Russian forces on operations in Syria.
