Cops respond to deadly shooting near Colorado State University

Police say three people are dead and one other person is wounded after a shooting in an apartment building near Colorado State University.

Zamora was a resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, but was based at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming, reports ABC Denver.

Four people were involved in the shooting just before 2 a.m.at the Sunstone apartment complex at 720 City Park.

Friends told CBS4's Dillon Thomas the surviving victim is a University of Colorado student who was visiting one of her best friends when she was shot.

McNealy was a student studying liberal arts, art, and art history. According to the Daily Mail, she was also a designer for the student publication CSU Life. The other three victims were not affiliated with CSU. Speaking to the media, Fort Collins police spokeswoman Kate Kimble said, "A short time after they arrived at the apartment complex, investigators believe the suspect shot the victims and ultimately, himself". CSU is a public university with more than 33,000 students.

Police had not released a motive in the shooting as of the afternoon of October 20.

Darren Rutz, a former CSU student who lives near the scene, told CBS Denver station KCNC-TV he was awakened by gunfire, followed by a woman's call for help.

"There was a lot of gunshots actually, so, I don't know, they sounded like they were all coming from the same place".

"Thinking of the type of person Tris was, my brother and I, you know we were thinking that Tris was trying to protect them - the girl - because that's the type of person he is", said Rian Unpingco.

The university sent out an e-mail to students and staff regarding the shooting in Fort Collins, stating that, "We are deeply saddened by this awful loss to our campus community and will share more information as we have it".
