ISIS claims responsibility for Afghan mosque attack

A senior security official said the exact number of casualties was unknown but that security forces at the scene had removed at least 30 bodies

Defence ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri said four others were wounded in the explosion at the gates of Marshal Fahim military academy, as they were leaving by minibus.

A suicide bomber set off his explosives inside a mosque in the Afghan capital on Friday, officials said, killing at least 30.

Various extremist groups have staged regular attacks, including suicide bombings, in Afghanistan targeting government forces and populated areas.

The attack takes this week's death toll from militant attacks to 200, and is the second major attack in Kabul in the past 24 hours.

Kith and kin of the latest deadly attack victims on Monday said enemies couldn't stir up religious differences among Afghan people by carrying out such attacks.

Worldwide media reported that at least 39 people died in the blast at Imam Zaman Mosque in Dasht-e-Barchi district, west of Kabul after one bomber walked into the mosque as people were praying at noon yesterday.

Abdul Hussain Naseri, a Shiite cleric, condemned the attack and said more security is needed for Shiite mosques in the city.

Residents say attendance at local Shia mosques in Kabul on Friday has dropped hugely due to fears of being targets.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks although the Islamic State group have targeted mosques several times in the country.

In August, more than 40 Shia Muslims were killed in Kabul when Daesh terrorists attacked a mosque packed with worshipers.

Earlier this year, following an attack claimed by the Islamic State group on the Iraqi embassy in Kabul.

Afghanistan has seen a spate of suicide attacks and bombings in recent months.
