Liverpool smash NK Maribor

Marko Grujic

Liverpool have confirmed their 21-man squad for Tuesday's (17 October) Champions League clash against NK Maribor.

Like his counterpart, Jurgen Klopp does not have many roster issues on his hands either ahead of the trip to Maribor.

Sadio Mane is another major absentee.

Jurgen Klopp has confirmed Loris Karius will start in goal for Liverpool, and the Reds are also without Sadio Mane - who picked up a hamstring injury during the recent global break. The Senegal worldwide suffered a hamstring injury during the global break which could keep him out of action for up to six weeks.

"It looks like Maribor didn't play well, but it was very hard to play against us today".

Liverpool have only won once in the Premier League since August but Spurs have struggled since moving to Wembley and only won there for the first time in the league last weekend.

In racking up 5 goals, this became the first Liverpool side in history to score as many goals away from home in the Champions League.

Liverpool have faced off against Slovenian opposition just twice previously W1 D1), in the first round of the 2003-04 UEFA Cup against Olimpija Ljubljana. In fact, the Slovenian side has won just one of their 14 group stage games in the premier European club competition (D5 L8).

Look at the recent draws against Sevilla, Burnley, Newcastle and on Saturday against United and Liverpool were by far the better team in all of those games.

Tuesday could be the night when Jurgen Klopp & co. finally break the duck as they visit Maribor.

Maribor are making their third appearance in the Champions League after 1999/00 and 2014/15 but have never reached the knockout stages.

However, a combination of defensive mistakes and missed opportunities in front of goal continues to cost them time and again and that can be solved if the right players come into the side.
