PM Modi to inaugurate first ever All India Institute of Ayurveda

Morning Current Affairs 17 October 2017

On the occasion of 2 Ayurveda Day, Narendra Modi, The Prime Minister today dedicated the All India Institute of Ayurveda, in New Delhi, to the nation. Those nations who leave their heritage behind, are destined to lose their identity, he added. He said his government's main focus was on preventive healthcare and providing affordable and easily accessible health care to the poor, and Ayush can take a lead in this drive.

The new institute, Modi said, would promote such inter-disciplinary research involving the exponents of Ayush, Indian Council of Medical Research and foreign collaborators.

Naik also said "the government had already begun work on building AIIMS-like facilities for Ayurveda across India to promote the science".

The PM further added that his government was focusing on integrating the public healthcare system with Ayurveda and Yoga. Aiming for better standardisation, the ministry on Tuesday released a standard guideline on the Ayurvedic treatments and the second guideline on Ayurvedic terminologies.

He said the Ayush Ministry will ensure that there is a good Ayurveda hospital in each district. "The pride in our heritage is reflected in the way people gather for Ayurveda Day or Yoga Day".

PM Modi said that Ayurveda is not just a medical practice, but encompasses public health and environment health as well.

The prime minister said Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (Ayush) ministry was working on other schemes like Ayush villages and wanted corporate houses to promote Ayurveda by spending from their corporate social responsibility fund.

Noting that people across the world are becoming increasingly attracted to health and wellness, the prime minister suggested that time was ripe for an atmosphere of Ayurveda to develop. "It has started working towards facilitating quality patient care and research, bridging gaps in scientific information about quality, safety and efficacy of Ayurveda products, and developing benchmarks of Ayurvedic education, research and healthcare", Naik said. Medicinal plant farming can also help farmers boost their income, which is in line with the government's plan to double farmers' income by 2022, when India celebrates 75 years of independence.
