Tejas Express food makes 26 ill

Twenty four passengers travelling on Tejas Express from Karmali to Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus have fallen ill after they had food from the pantry vehicle.

The passengers were headed towards Mumbai. "The train was stopped out of course at Chiplun railway station and treatment was given to passengers by railway doctor", the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) said in an official statement.

Officials of IRCTC, which manages the catering service for the train, said an inquiry needed to be done to assess the reason why the passengers fell ill. As per an ANI, L K Verma, CPRO, Konkan Railway said, "All passengers taken to Lifecare Hospital at Maharashtra's Chiplun".

Of the 24 passengers, three are in the intensive care unit but an official said there was no risk to their lives. It said 230 passengers were served breakfast on board.

Tejas Express is the country's first semi-high speed fully AC train service launched between Karmali railway station in Goa and Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Terminal in June this year.
