In London, India had beaten Pakistan 7-1 in the pool stage and followed it up with a 6-1 win in the classification match of Hero Hockey World League Semi Final.

Asian heavyweights India take on arch-rivals Pakistan in the much-anticipated Asia Cup 2017 encounter at the Maulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday, October 15.

Though Pakistan got off to a roaring start in this tournament with a 7-1 win against hosts Bangladesh, they stumbled against Japan as they settled for a 2-2 draw. In fact, the Men in Blue managed to control the proceedings for most of the match.

Thanks to Chinglensana's remarkable field goal in the 17th minute, India were on top at half-time and scoreline read 1-0 in favour of India.

Two minutes later, India doubled their advantage after drag-flicker Harmanpreet marked his fifth goal of the tournament as he fired to the left corner of the post to make it 3-0.

India controlled the proceedings for the better part of the match, barring the final quarter when Pakistan, trailing 0-3, came hard on the Indian defence in search of goals. With this victory, India finished on top of Pool A with nine points in three matches.

Twitter came alive after the match with several celebrities, among others, congratulating the Indian team on the superb win.

Contrary to the win, Pakistan had the first real scoring chance when they earned their first penalty corner but they wasted it.

Q4 55'min: Penalty Corner - Close attack by Pak, India succumbs to their combined attack, nearly a goal.

India, Pakistan have qualified for the round robin of the Asia Cup in Dhaka, Bangladesh. India lead 1-0. On Sunday, Pakistan needs to ensure a win against India to make the Super 4s stage.

Three minutes later, Gurjant Singh's reverse hit from the right flank was just off target.

Pakistan pulled one back with the strike of Ali Shan but that was all they could take away from the game.

"I don't think our penalty corner conversation is bad".
