Jose Mourinho confirms Paul Pogba's injury fears in blow for Man United

The French worldwide suffered a hamstring tear during the first half of the 3-0 win at Old Trafford and Mourinho has this afternoon compared his absence to that of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcos Rojo.

Pogba scored two goals and made two assists before the Manchester United record signing suffered a hamstring problem during a 3-0 victory over Basel in the Champions League earlier this month.

Midfield trio Paul Pogba, Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini are all sidelined with injuries and Mourinho could hand Ander Herrera another start.

More than a handful of optimistic fans leapt to the conclusion that Jose Mourinho's tight lips on the matter meant that the United boss might spring a surprise and unleash the French midfielder for their clash with Liverpool in two weeks.

"But with long-term injuries, I don't speak about them, so Ibra, Pogba, [Marcos] Rojo and these players, I don't think about them".

"Pogpa will not play tomorrow", he told a press conference on Friday before Crystal Palace face the seventh round of the Premiership.

Further, the manager claimed: "I cannot have hope, like with Jones or Valencia who I can see in training and hope for a positive answer".

'We have to train and make decisions after training but I hope some of the players who couldn't play in Moscow, maybe not all of them, but some of them'.

'Tomorrow some will be out, ' added Mourinho.

And Twitter's reaction to the news shows just how important the midfielder is in United's bid to win the Premier League for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
