DPRK diplomat leaves for Moscow for talks with Russian Federation

US Conduct Joint Short-range Air Defense Drill

Choe Son Hui, director of the North Korean foreign ministry's North America department, met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov and Ambassador At Large Oleg Burmistrov.

North Korea and Russian Federation foreign ministry officials are meeting for negotiations in Moscow, as Pyongyang may be seeking stronger ties amid a nuclear crisis and deteriorating relations with China, its main trading partner.

Earlier today it was reported that any attempt by North Korea to fire a missile at the United States may force the U.S. military to destroy a nuclear warhead over Russian territory, as this would be the likeliest trajectory of a missile.

One of the few prominent North Korean women diplomats, Choi told reporters at the airport she had come to "negotiate with Russia's foreign ministry".

Russian Federation might be trying to get involved in back-channel diplomacy between Pyongyang and Washington, the sources said.

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said on Tuesday that Seoul would continue to seek dialogue with the North, even under the tough circumstances.

Russian Federation and China have previously said they both support a "suspension-for-suspension" approach to reign in North Korea's missile and nuclear weapons program. "President Putin could be that person because he's befriended President Trump", said Yang. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un threatened retaliation in his response, calling Trump "mentally deranged" and a "dotard".

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang said war on the Korean peninsula would have no victor.

Tensions have escalated since North Korea conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test on September 3 but the rhetoric has reached new levels in recent days with leaders on both sides exchanging threats and insults.

Kuwait, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Bulgaria, France and Germany either kicked out their North Korean ambassadors or forced delegations to downsize, while Kuwait and Qatar stopped issuing visas to North Korean laborers. It remains to be seen whether this strategy will work or if Moscow or Beijing actually still have leverage over the North Korean junta. North Korea condemned China's passing of the sanctions through its state media, and on Saturday, specifically slammed the People's Daily and Global Times for "seriously hurting the line and social system of the DPRK", using the acronym of its official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
