A 'Blade Runner' Anime is Coming From the Director of 'Cowboy Bebop'

Ridley Scott's upcoming addition to the Blade Runner franchise, Blade Runner 2049, is set 30 years after the original film which took place in 2019. After the first film about the enigmatic antagonist of the film played by Jared Leto, this is the one dedicated to Dave Bautista, whose imposing stature will take on the role of the mysterious Sapper.

How on earth do you follow a film as iconic and generally wonderful as Ridley Scott's Blade Runner?

Hailing from director Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Animatrix) comes Blade Runner: Black Out 2022, a new prequel that's going to be animated in the visionary's signature style. The brief video above also offers a closer look at its test animation, concept art, and some actual footage. We see a shadowy figure emerging from smoke and fire, and a hooded girl who is likely the protagonist of the short. Pictures'Blade Runner 2049 will allow fans to experience more of the action than in any other format.
