Hurricane Jose continues to meander in the Atlantic

Caicos before Irma

Looping hurricanes have happened before, including Hurricane Jeanne, which in 2004 appeared to be heading out to the open Atlantic only to turn around and strike the Florida coast.

Jose's impact is sure to be felt along the Southeast coast, bringing rough seas.

However, after Monday night, Jose may slam on the brakes hard, ceasing almost all forward motion, likely setting up a roller-coaster-like path that will take the storm in a series of loops, circles, dips and dives over for the entirety of next week.

As for its forecast, hurricanes in this part of the Atlantic often race out to sea and into oblivion, but that won't be the case with Jose.

"Canada appears more like than the U.S.to receive a hit from Jose at this point, but it is too early to be believer in these long-range model forecasts", Masters wrote in his Cat 6 blog on Weather Underground.

Downtown Miami on September 11, 2017, after it was hit by Hurricane Irma.

The path of Jose is interesting with a large loop taking place over the Atlantic before making another run at the United States towards the middle of end of next week.

But models can have trouble forecasting unusual tracks such as Jose's expected path.

Jose is now located about 400 miles north of the northern Leeward Islands and is moving northwest.

Jose's wind forecast, updated today by the National Hurricane Center, show tropical-storm level winds reaching near Florida and the coastal Carolinas by Friday.

Jose already has threatened other hurricane-weary countries. "Jose was nearly up to a Cat 5 at one point, so that brought up some pretty cool water and I'm all for storms double backing and weakening".

Jose was the third major hurricane in a row, behind Harvey and Irma. We'll have to wait and see what's in store as we move past the peak of the hurricane season.

"Even outside the loop it won't be the same path as Hurricane Irma".
