U California Sues Trump Over DACA Repeal

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer speaks after a Democratic policy meeting on Capitol Hill in Washington U.S

"To target these young people is wrong - because they have done nothing wrong".

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced September 5 an end to DACA, a program created by former President Barack Obama in 2012 to allow 800,000 people who were brought to the United States illegally as children to stay in the country.

President Trump's decision to wipe out deportation reprieves for young undocumented immigrants has unleashed a frenzied rush to renew 154,000 permits before an October 5 deadline, a process advocacy groups say will cost millions of dollars in fees and stretch their resources to the limit. But now that the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy will be repealed, Rodriguez will have to put her dreams of helping others on hold. Tim Scott, R-S.C., in a press release.

After eight years of the Obama administration, there weren't many policies I could say I agreed with.

Roth said just more than 6,400 people have benefitted from DACA in SC. He also made building a wall on the United States-Mexico border a major point of his campaign platform. They pay their taxes to be here, and contribute to our economy and diverse culture.

"It pulled us into American society", said DACA recipient Sadhana Singh.

The Georgia chapter of the ACLU promised that it is not giving up the fight to protect the rights of DACA youth. He said those who had DACA status may now be living in fear of being deported. "It erodes trust in communities and complicates policing", he said. There are several bills in Congress addressing this. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., introduced with Sen. DACA did not provide such a path. This morning, the Speaker told me he intends to work on an immigration measure that includes protection for DACA kids. President Trump's decision to enact an "orderly wind-down" of executive amnesty for these Americans-of-the-heart sets the stage for a fair-minded solution to a long-standing immigration quandary.

First we must understand what exactly DACA is and is not.

Roth said the estimated annual GDP loss in SC if DACA recipients lose their work permits would be about $265 million dollars. The average hourly wage of those who worked before DACA was $10.29; the average hourly wage of those who work now is $17.46.

It's pretty clear that the Democrats believe they have a winning issue with DACA. But the tweet appears to be another example of Trump trying to both appeal to his base by ending DACA and still trying to appear sympathetic to the group that he has repeatedly said he "loves".

Manchin is the only Democratic senator to stand by Trump on this matter. It would not sit well with a majority of Americans who in the past, have supported budget cuts but not at the expense of shuttering the government.
