Ryan School Murder Case: Parents protesting subjected to a mild lathi charge

Protesters set on fire a liquor shop close to Ryan Internstional School in Gurugram on Sunday

"They have been booked under India's Juvenile Justice Act".

"We accept negligence on part of the Ryan International School but the school can not be derecognised as the future of 1200 students is at stake", Education minister Ram Bilas Sharma said.

Protests continued at other places with the parents of children studying in Ryan International School's Noida and Greater Noida branches seeking an assurance regarding safety of their wards.

On May 2016, a 7-year-old girl identified as Jiya studying in Ryan International school, Gurugram died after being hit by a speeding vehicle after she got off her school bus. A school bus conductor Ashok Kumar has been arrested in connection with the case, who has been accused of attempting to sexually assault the boy and then murdering him when he resisted. "We are also seeking advice from the police department to guide us in this regard", the official notice of the school said. Recently, a three membered special team reported the drawbacks of school authorities according to which there is no separate toilet for school bus conductors or drivers, they use the same washroom. The local administration announced that the school will be shut on Monday after parents called for a mass protest.

The Gurgaon police has also suspended station house officer (SHO) of the Sadar police station - the Ryan International School situated on Sohna Road falls under the jurisdiction of this station - for "negligence in maintaining law and order". The victim's father expressed doubts about the way the investigation is being carried out and demanded a CBI probe. Reportedly, many people received injuries after the police resorted to lathicharge the gathering outside the gate.

Meanwhile, in yet another important development in the murder case, the Mumbai-based owners of the Ryan have filed an anticipatory bail application in the Bombay High Court ahead of being questioned by a team of Haryana police.

Meanwhile, District Inspector of Schools PK Upadhyay said, "All school managements have been directed to submit their security and safety plans".

However, the names and whereabouts of the other trustees of the St Xaviers Educational Trust - registered as a Public Charitable Trust in Maharashtra in the early 1980s - are not known and it is not clear whether they would be implicated in the case. Angry over the killing, a mob partially vandalised the school office and shouted slogans against its management, following which heavy police force was deployed at the campus.
