Here's what Trump's top aide thinks his biggest mistake was

Nancy Pelosi Chuck Schumer

"The media has reported I was adamantly opposed to that", Bannon told a "60 Minutes" interview, in an exchange left out of Sunday's broadcast.

CHARLIE ROSE: Give me a story that illustrates that. We embraced the establishment. He later added: "I think their choice is gonna be you're not gonna be able to totally repeal it". McConnell has repeatedly expressed concern to the White House about the danger primaries pose to his members, stressing that it could imperil his narrow four-seat majority, according to three people with direct knowledge of the discussions.

The activity has alarmed senior Republicans, who worry it will drain millions of dollars from the party's coffers to take on Democrats in the general election.

Bannon then went on to argue that the United States was built on protectionist policies that allowed the United States manufacturing and financial systems to thrive, citing the work of Alexander Hamilton - who was, in fact, an immigrant - James Polk, Henry Clay, Abraham Lincoln, and "the Roosevelts".

Bannon also said that Dreamers - illegal immigrants who arrived in the US when they were children - should "self deport" once their status under DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, expires.

"I think in President Trump's mind, or President-Elect Trump's mind, in Jared [Kushner]'s mind, in the family's mind, I actually agreed with the decision". "And to be brutally frank, you know, the campaign, look, I'd never been on a campaign in my entire life, right?"

"I don't need the affirmation of the mainstream media", he said. We were, our whole campaign was a little bit the island of misfit toys.

And Bannon said, "If you're saying that's associated with me, then I'll leave it at that". "I've got to really staff up something'". I don't need to be - I don't need to be lectured by a bunch of - by a bunch of limousine liberals, OK, from the Upper East Side of NY and from the Hamptons, OK, about any of this.

Bannon said that he didn't believe that firing Comey would have changed the "institutional logic of the FBI and particularly in regards to an investigation".

Appearing on CBS News' 60 Minutes, Bannon spoke with interviewer Charlie Rose about a number of subjects, including Republican legislators, immigration, and the politics of White House staffing.

Steve Bannon: That would probably be too bombastic, even for me, but maybe in modern political history.

Had Trump not fired Comey, a special counsel wouldn't have been appointed to take over the FBI's investigation into Russian meddling in the election.

"I hold these people in contempt, total and complete contempt", Bannon said, blaming them for U.S. trade problems with China and involvement in Iraq.

The special counsel's team is reportedly investigating the president's decision to fire Mr Comey.

"There's nothing to the Russian Federation investigation".

"It's a waste of time", he tells Rose in the clip above.

"I hold these people in contempt, total and complete contempt", said Bannon, blaming them for the Iraq war and trade conflicts with China. In the video, which was obtained by the Washington Post, Donald Trump talked with Billy Bush about groping women.
