'We can beat Wales' says Moldova boss

The 17-year-old Woodburn scored on his worldwide debut for Wales on Sunday night as they defeated Austria 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier.

And the Liverpool striker took just 261 seconds to mark the occasion with a brilliant goal to win the Group D fixture, a result that cuts Wales' gap to the Republic of Ireland in second to two points.

Woodburn is likely to play again when Wales take on Moldova in what is a must-win game for their hopes of qualifying for the showpiece event in Russian Federation in 2018.

After a pretty bland and dismal 75 minutes, it looked like Wales were going to be forced to settle for a disappointing 0-0 draw - that is, until Woodburn was summoned from the bench to pull off another of his magic tricks. Young Woodburn burst down the left-hand side before producing a pin point cross for Hal Robson-Kanu to nod home the opener and send the away fans insane.

Coleman said: "It was a good win".

Coleman's faith in the boldness of Woodburn's youth paid dividends, and if Austria fancied their chances of pegging Wales back, then they were given short shrift by the team's defensive effort.

Hal Robson-Kanu taps the ball in at the back post.

Moldova boss Igor Dobrovolskiy, meanwhile, makes four changes from the 3-0 defeat in Serbia, with Vitalie Bordian, Artiom Rozgoniuc, Dinu Graur and Alexandru Pascenco coming in.

Global teammate Gareth Bale had only positives to say about Woodburn.

Hal Robson-Kanu celebrates after giving Wales the lead in Moldova.

He's a typical winger, likes to take on a player, likes to shoot, likes to cross.

Gareth Southgate's men can all-but wrap up top spot in Group E with victory over Slovakia, who sit two points behind their hosts with two games remaining, while third-placed Scotland will be looking to close the gap on the Wembley visitors to a solitary point by seeing off bottom side Malta.

But Bale, speaking ahead of Wales' crucial World Cup qualifier away to Moldova on Tuesday night, admitted he had played a part in Woodburn pledging his allegiance to the Dragons.

"But these players need support - no matter how they played". It wasn't our best performance, we had to be patient.

"The main aim is to get Wales to the World Cup finals and he will be in that set-up if he can do that, so keep his head down and keep on working hard".
