Russian ambassador to Sudan latest in string of Kremlin diplomat deaths

The Russian ambassador to Khartoum, who was found dead in his residence

Russian ambassador to Sudan Migayas Shirinsky died in Khartoum, the Russian Foreign Ministry's information department told TASS.

It remains unclear what caused the 62-year-old diplomat to die.

Russia's RIA Novosti state news agency reported the veteran diplomat's death, citing the foreign ministry in Moscow. Initial reports ruled out any "foul play" in the death of the ambassador, the foreign ministries added.

Shirinskiy manifested symptoms of an acute heart attack, embassy staff told the state broadcaster.

Mirgayas Shirinsky, a career diplomat who was in his early 60s, was at least the sixth serving Russian diplomat to die in the past two years.

The police and the representatives of the embassy of Russian Federation have transported his body to the morgue, continued the manager.

Al-Hadar stated that Shirinskiy made a lot of effort to develop relations between Russian Federation and Sudan since he was appointed to the Khartoum embassy in 2013.

This picture taken on December 19, 2016 shows Andrey Karlov (2ndR), the Russian ambassador to Ankara, lying on the floor after being shot by a gunman (R) during an attack during a public event in Ankara.

"Mirgayas Shirinsky was a top professional who dedicated his life to diplomatic service", Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a press briefing in Moscow on Thursday.

Shirinskiy, born in 1954, was appointed to the post in 2013. "As soon as we get detailed information from our embassy's staff in Khartoum, we'll release a report on the circumstances of death of our colleague".
