Fantasy Cricket: TFG Pundit tips for 2nd Test England v West Indies

A rare moment of joy for West Indies’ players in England

On the flipside, England have made the bold move of announcing their final 11 on the eve of the match with fast bowler Chris Woakes, now fully recovered from a side strain he sustained in June, making the cut, ahead of Toby Roland-Jones.

"Toby unfortunately misses out", Root, who will take charge of his first Test at his home ground, told Sky Sports on Thursday (August 24).

West Indies captain Jason Holder said increased patience with the ball and greater fight with the bat were the keys to his side's chances of an improved showing in the second Test against England at Headingley.

Yet the 28-year-old will need to hit the ground running to guarantee a starting spot in this winter's Ashes series after Roland-Jones took 14 wickets in his first three global games, including a five-wicket haul against South Africa on debut.

In the three test match series, West Indies lost their first game against to the host nation. He took his opportunity, he played some fantastic cricket and I see him playing a massive part for us moving forward.

West Indies have not won a Test in England since 2000 and have not won a series away from home against a team other than Bangladesh and Zimbabwe since 1995.

ENGLAND wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow believes day-night Tests still need a little work.

"The way we played in the last game, and the two games previously as well, we played some really strong cricket".

And the skipper expects a strong West Indies response after heavy criticism of their performance in Birmingham.

Bairstow backed the team to score runs in Leeds. "Taking that in, we understand we've got to be better and we're aiming to do that".

"But, at the same time, if you go at it in a way that you don't respect the conditions, and you don't respect what the ball's doing, then it can be hard".

The 48-year-old Law, who took charge in February, indicated West Indies would retain the same XI. "We have got to make sure that our game is the best it can be and we follow up what was a really good win last week".

"They are young men; they haven't played cricket in this part of the world", said Law. "It is just the experience of learning how to play in a very tough environment", he said.

"If you get through those hard periods - if it's a bit cloudy and it's nipping or swinging - then it's a fantastic place to bat".

"I think we've got to be decisive about what we want to do and stick to it".
