Injuries reported after rocket strikes much-awaited Damascus business fair

Car Blast Hits Syrian Port City of Latakia

The Mortar News in Damascus Facebook page that tracks violence in the capital reports that the shell hit the entrance of the Damascus International Fair killing four and wounding four others.

"Their direct support - politically, economically and militarily - has made possible advances on the battlefield and reduced the losses and burdens of war", Assad added.

Several people have reportedly been injured by rocket fire that targeted the entrance to the Damascus International Fair venue, where a high-profile business gathering is now underway.

Information about the incident is confirmed to the Syrian Observatory for human rights.

A statement by Reuters read that the television station flashed that an explosive laden vehicle caused the blast in the Tashreen district of the city that embraces supporters of Syria's head of regime Bashar al Assad.

The exhibition is being attended by regional and foreign businessmen from over 45 countries and authorities have hailed it as a sign that the war-torn country was recovering from the conflict.

A source at the hospital in Jaramana, a suburb south-west of Damascus, has told the AFP to have "seen the dead and wounded, in a state of shock" getting to the establishment.

While Damascus has been insulated from much of the worst violence of the country's war, several key rebel enclaves remain in the Eastern Ghouta region outside the city.

Since then, the country has descended into a bloody civil war that has killed more than 330,000 people, displaced millions and devastated the economy.

Syrian President Bashar Assad on Sunday refused any security cooperation with Western nations or the reopening of their embassies, until they cut ties with opposition and insurgent groups.
