Scaramucci, who served as White House communications director for only 11 days, described Bannon as a "a snag on the president", arguing that the former head of Breitbart News was pulling Trump too far to the right and alienating moderate and independent voters, as well as Republicans in Congress.
"He's got to move more to the mainstream", Scaramucci said.
White House National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster wouldn't say whether he could work with chief strategist Steve Bannon Sunday on "Meet The Press", dodging the question three times.
During ABC News' livestream interview after This Week, Scaramucci was asked if he believes Bannon is a white supremacist or white nationalist.
"If the president really wants to execute the legislative agenda that I think is so promising for the American people, the lower middle-class people and the middle-class people, then he has to move away from that "Bannon-bart" nonsense", he said. And so if he does that, he'll have a very successful legislative agenda that he'll be able to execute.
When Stephanopoulos asked if there was anyone in the White House who would tell Trump the statement had been a mistake, Scaramucci noted that most of Trump's staff "may be reluctant to tell him the truth". "I think he needed to be much harsher as it related to the white supremacists and the nature of that, I applaud Gen. McMaster for calling it out for what it is - it's actually terrorism". And if he doesn't do that, you're going to see this inertia and you're going to see this resistance from more of the establishment senators that he needs to curry favor with.
"Listen, there's probably mutual disappointment on both sides, again I have to be accountable for what I did and I am", he said. "I'm not trying to build my own brand" on the president's coattails", he added.
"I wouldn't have recommended that statement", Mr Scaramucci said of President Trump's decision to criticise violence "on many sides" but not clearly condemn white supremacists.
Scaramucci's frustration with Bannon was put on full display last month after New Yorker reporter Ryan Lizza published an article detailing an expletive-laced phone conversation he had with Scaramucci.
According to the report, Trump has been "irritated" with Bannon following a series of Breitbart reports targeting McMaster.
Trump added: "Steve is a good guy, but I told them to straighten it out or I will".
