TN CM seeks exemption from NEET for state students

TN CM Edappadi Palanisamy sacks TTV Dinakaran from AIADMK

In his prayer, the OPS faction leader V Maitreyan said the resolution was a clear admission of the illegality of the purported appointments of Sasikala as general secretary and Dhinakaran as deputy general secretary.

Chennai: Taking a step closer to a merger, the O Panneerselvam faction on Friday moved the Election Commission with a prayer to reject the almost seven lakh affidavits submitted by the AIADMK-Amma party in support of V K Sasikala and T T V Dhinakaran and termed them "false declarations". On the other hand, EPS knows that if he loses the CM position, Kongu community would be thrown out of the party by Team OPS and Sasikala's family and hence the dilemma.

Reports say that the EPS and OPS camp will meet over the weekend and decide on the details of the merger.

Before her arrest, then chief minister Panneerselvam was locked in a power tussle with Sasikala sparking a political crisis on who will be late J Jayalalithaa's successor.

At that time, AIADMK Amma which is under de facto control of Palaniswami filed an affidavit before the Election Commission endorsing Sasikala's appointment as interim general secretary until the general council elects a full-time GS.

Panneerselvam is also trying for an appointment with Modi, sources in New Delhi said. Dinakaran is the nephew of party chief VK Sasikala.

The "apt word for him is 420", ANI reported Palaniswami as saying about Dinakaran.

Amid speculation that merger talks with the rebel O Panneerselvam camp has reached final stages, the Amma faction of the AIADMK met at the party headquarters in Chennai. Sasikala and her family have intricately hard-wired themselves to the party-DNA over the last several years under the patronage of Jayalalithaa. More agitations, just as the one held by the party's yuva morcha recently, to ask for holding local polls and better quality of teachers in government schools are being planned.

If EPS moves an inch, Dinakaran will put down his government because he has 37 MLAs with him. "But how long will they survive?"

Four months have passed since Team EPS announced the ousting of TTV Dhinakaran from the party and yet the delay in merger. "Anyway, this is not going to help the party or the government", the MLA said.
