US Successfully Tests Missile-Intercept System As North Korea Tensions Rise

US tests defense system after North Korea missile launch

The most recent US trial of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) framework was arranged well before North Korea's most recent rocket dispatch, however it comes during a period of rising pressure with the nation since Pyongyang propelled its first-historically speaking trial of an ICBM on July 4.

The test came the same day that two USA supersonic B-1 bombers flew over the Korean Peninsula, following joint military drills with Japan, in a show-of-force response to North Korea's test-fire of what Washington deemed the isolated nation's second intercontinental ballistic missile on Friday.

The US Missile Defense Agency said a medium-range ballistic missile was successfully intercepted over the Pacific in the early hours of Sunday morning, in a test of the Pentagon's Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) System battery in Kodiak, Alaska.

In a statement, the Army said the exercise involved Army Tactical Missile System (ATACMS) and South Korea's Hyunmoo Missile II.

This was the 15th test of the THAAD ground-based weapon system, which is created to shoot down short-, medium- and intermediate-range ballistic missiles.

In a pair of tweets Saturday President Donald Trump criticized China for not doing more against North Korea's leader and its missile program.

It was sacked by an Air Force Plane and intercepted by the defense system.

The Missile Defense Agency hopes to use data from Sunday's missile test to further enhance the THAAD system.

The President's comments come a day after North Korea test-fired another Ballistic Missile test. It is reported by the missile defense Agency.

If Friday's missile had been fired on a flatter, standard trajectory, it would have reached as far as NY and Boston, according to David Wright, a missile expert at the Union of Concerned Scientists, in an interview with CNN.

Meant as a "stern warning" to Washington, according to North Korean state media, Friday's launch aimed for "maximum distance". "If called upon, we are ready to respond with rapid, lethal, and overwhelming force at a time and place of our choosing", said Gen. Terrence J.

The U.S. side prepared for a possible attack from North Korea and China. It can shoot down short, medium and intermediate ballistic missiles. "China could easily solve this problem!" the tweets read.

This is the second time in the month the USA has tested the THAAD system.
