Trump's approval rating has dipped even lower

On Sunday, Trump brushed off the poll, saying it has a history of inaccuracy, while rounding up his approval rating to 40 percent.

That's the conclusion of a Bloomberg News poll showing just 40 percent of Americans approve of the job he's doing - despite the fact that they are feeling better about their own economic prospects.

US President Donald Trump denounced a new poll Sunday that indicates he has a lower approval rating than any of his predecessors at the six-month mark in 70 years.

Despite Mr Trump's claims on the campaign trail to "make America great" on the world stage, the survey found 48 per cent believed the United States has actually been weakened.

A June 2016 meeting revealed last week between Trump's eldest son, top aides and several Russians in an apparent bid to acquire negative information about Democrat Hillary Clinton was viewed by more than 60 percent as inappropriate, even as almost half of Republicans viewed the meeting as appropriate.

Americans rate Trump lower on personality than on issues by six points. He also said the Washington Post/ABC News poll was "just about the most inaccurate" ahead of last year's presidential election.

There is no visible upside to Trump's presidency.

But there is some good news for Trump. The next lowest measurement in the trend was 49% for Bush in October 2005, a time when his job approval ratings were falling in the wake of the government's poor response to the Hurricane Katrina disaster and Bush's withdrawing his nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court.

His disapproval rating has risen five points to 58 per cent.

Meanwhile, only 59 per cent of Republicans back their party's proposal, though only 11 per cent say they prefer Obamacare. Forty-six percent of whites see them as unsafe, rising to 65 percent of nonwhites. Trump is now in the middle of the Republican base average, so if he drops, it will signal to Congressional Republicans that his president has lost his grip on his party's base, and they are free to break with him.

The survey showed that 82 percent of Republicans approved of Trump versus just 11 percent among Democrats.

The poll was conducted between from July 10 to July 13 among a random sample of over 1,000 adults being surveyed over the phone, with a margin error of 3.5 points.
