US Lawmakers set to question Trump campaign chairman

Trump's lawyer 'Watch your back'

Grassley, Iowa's senior Republican senator, serves as chairman of the judiciary committee - one of several committees conducting investigations into possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian government to influence the 2016 presidential election.

The invitation to Trump Jr. comes a day after Grassley said the committee wants to hear from Paul Manafort, who ran Trump's presidential campaign for a time.

Democrat Adam Schiff, a computer intelligence expert, said his panel would like to see the use of Russian media trolls and whether they are related to short-term electoral campaigns.

Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley in Washington on September 20, 2016.

Manafort ran Trump's campaign from March to August of 2016 before resigning amid news reports that he received illegal payments for lobbying work in the Ukraine, where he worked for a prime minister who had close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Trump Jr. told Fox News' Sean Hannity Tuesday night that he would be willing to testify under oath about the meeting, which he said yielded no useful information and instead focused on adoptions.

Trump Jr. disclosed this week that he had met with a Russian lawyer past year who was said to be offering damaging information on Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump Jr. sits down to a round-table discussion at the Talk Media News radio row in Manchester, N.H., February 8, 2016. He was told the Russian government had information that could "incriminate" Clinton and her dealings with Russia.

Grassley said there will be a hearing within days on the lax enforcement. "I think many people would have held that meeting", he said.

The FBI, Congress and Special Counsel Bob Mueller are also questioning Manafort as part of the Russian Federation probe, per the Washington Post.

However, Veselnitskaya was able to come into the United States, after requesting a meeting with Donald Trump Jr. through an intermediary promising damaging information on political opponent Hillary Clinton.

Lawyers for President Donald Trump have raised the possibility that the request for the meeting could have been part of a smear campaign against him, trying to tie him and his campaign to Russian Federation. Trump Jr. responds: "I love it".
