Through cutting United Nations funds, Israel has exhausted all excuses

Israel Has No Sovereignty over Jerusalem: UNESCO

Israel has slammed a vote by UNESCO declaring the Old City of Hebron an endangered Palestinian World Heritage site, pledging to reduce its funding to the UN.

Mr. Netanyahu's office said Israel would further reduce the membership fees it pays to the United Nations by $1 million a year and would use the funds to establish a Jewish People's heritage museum in Hebron.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called the resolution "another delusional decision by UNESCO".

The city's old souk has also been closed down with Palestinians being forbidden access to it as Shuhada Street now leads to an illegal Jewish only settlement.

The colonisers living in Hebron are protected by hundreds of Israeli soldiers, with Palestinians saying the settlements and heavy military presence are degrading and make their lives impossible.

Kuwait, Lebanon and Tunisia are the three Arab states on UNESCO's heritage committee, which voted for the controversial resolution on Friday afternoon at its meeting in Krakow, Poland.

Referred to by Jews as the Cave of the Patriarchs and by Muslims as the Ibrahimi Mosque, after the 14th-century house of prayer built there, the site has been a flashpoint of violence between Israelis and Palestinians for decades.

"This time they decided that the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron is a Palestinian site, meaning that it is not Jewish, and that the site is in danger".

The resolution was passed, said Haley, "despite protests by the United States, Israel and other countries".

There had been a local Jewish community in Hebron for decades before 1967, but they were forced out after tensions rose between religious communities during the British Mandate, following the arrival of thousands of Zionist settlers from Europe.

Netanyahu read from the Bible to demonstrate that UNESCO's resolution on Hebron negated religion, history and the facts.

The vote's results sparked outrage in Israel and the USA, and expressions of joy from the Palestinian Authority.

Hebron is one of the oldest cities in the world, dating back more than 3,000 years BC.

An unidentified Arab ambassador to the UN's peak scientific and education body meant to support Israel in a hotly contested vote on Hebron Friday, according to screenshots published by the Yedioth Ahronot newspaper.

Omar Abedrabo, a professor of Islamic history and archeology at Bethlehem University, told Mondoweiss that several historically important sites in Hebron have been destroyed by settlers renovating homes and business without any input or regulation from the Israeli or Palestinian Departments of Antiquities.

"It represents an affront to history. And it further discredits an already highly questionable United Nations agency".

The Ibrahimi Mosque has always been a flashpoint of Zionist colonial violence. As Palestinians gathered to pray, Goldstein opened fire inside the compound, killing 29 people including children.

She said two Palestinians, including one alleged "Hamas operative", were detained in Tulkarem refugee camp, one Palestinian was detained in the town of Dhinnaba, and another elsewhere in the Tulkarem district. "We decided not to go for violence, we chose to go only for political and diplomatic means", Majdi Khaldi, adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas tells Newsweek by phone.
