Ministers braced for possible Donald Trump visit to the UK

Protesters on alert: Donald Trump may 'sneak' into Britain within fortnight

United Kingdom government officials reportedly expect Trump to make a stop at his Aberdeenshire golf course as part of his trip to Europe to attend France's Bastille Day celebrations on July 14.

After the latest rumours of a presidential visit, the Stop Trump campaigner and Guardian columnist Owen Jones placed his Twitter followers on high alert, tweeting on Sunday night: "Donald Trump is planning to sneak into Britain to avoid protests".

Trump will be travelling to Europe later this week, stopping off in Poland before travelling to Germany for the G20 summit in Hamburg on July 7. Sarah Huckabee Sanders described them as "not accurate," whereas Theresa May's spokesperson told journalists, "I am not aware of any plans for the president to visit the U.K.in the next few weeks".

Prominent U.K. politicians, musicians and activists launched the Stop Trump coalition soon after, committing to "one of the biggest demonstrations in British history" should the President visit Britain.

Donald Trump continued his Fourth of July weekend visit to his Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., marking Monday, July 3, the 35th time the 45th President has visited one of his 17 golf clubs (and presumably played some golf) since becoming President on January 20, 2017.

A source at the White House said: "There is a window of opportunity for the President to visit Britain when he is in Europe later this month".

Any such visit would only be confirmed with just 24 hours' notice - to avoid giving protesters time to organise - meaning British officials will be on standby for the days around Bastille Day.

May did not include any mention of a state visit from the US President during the Queen's Speech, leading to speculation that he would not make a visit at all.

"We have to prove him wrong".

Downing Street denied on Monday that any specific plans had been made for a visit from Trump.

"Let's not allow the arrival of a misogynist, a racist, a bigot, and a threat to peace be unchallenged".

The Prime Minister last met Trump when she visited him in Washington, but she was criticised for having a soft approach earlier this year.

CNN has reached out to the White House for comment.
