Utah Jazz on verge of landing Ricky Rubio

Report: Jeff Teague agrees to three-year, $57 million deal with Wolves

Utah acquired point guard Ricky Rubio in a trade with the Timberwolves, as Rubio will basically take free agent George Hill's spot.

Drafted by Minnesota with the No. 5 pick in 2009, Rubio spent the first six years of his career with the Wolves, averaging 10.3 points and 8.5 assists. That's more money per year than the Ricky Rubio deal, but Rubio would likely command more money next year.

Jazz point guard George Hill is an unrestricted free agent this summer.

The New York Knicks will reportedly not be pursuing point guard Jeff Teague anymore.

Teague averaged 15 points and almost eight assists per game last season with the Indiana Pacers last season.

But the need for Minnesota to add shooting was only increased when the Wolves traded their best shooter, Zach LaVine, as part of the trade to acquire all-star forward Jimmy Butler.

Personal relationships aside, the move for Rubio should be seen as a positive one for Hayward, as it guarantees the Jazz retain a starting-caliber point guard for next season, rather than facing market uncertainty with Hill. Whereas I had him as the 13th-ranked point guard and 45th overall prospect on my big board in April, I'd now slide him past Jrue Holiday (assuming he re-signs with the New Orleans Pelicans) and Miami Heat floor general Goran Dragic.

Minnesota desperately needs shooters to complete the team they are now assembling.

They started with Teague, a more consistent shooter at point guard than is Rubio, which makes him a better fit for Tom Thibodeau's system. The Wolves were looking to upgrade their shooting after trading for Jimmy Butler last week.

As Gordon Hayward waits to begin his free-agent tour with a Saturday meeting with the Heat, the rest of the National Basketball Association is making moves.

Rubio's favorable contract may enable the Jazz to make more moves in free agency.

Tony Snell has agreed on a four-year deal that could be worth up to $46 million to stay with the Bucks, according to a person familiar with the deal.

Blake Griffin was in line to be one of the most pursued players in free agency.

A career 31.5 percent three-point shooter, opponents have never had to respect his game from outside, which has hamstrung his effectiveness operating from the perimeter.

-The Atlanta Hawks announced that they requested waivers on veteran swingman Mike Dunleavy.

The Minnesota Timberwolves were coming into free agency with a decent amount of cap room and some movable pieces, which made them an intriguing team to write about.
