JJ Redick agrees to one-year $23 million deal with 76ers

NBA Draft: 76ers' smart trade picks could see them go from bottom-dwellers to contenders

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports that J.J. Redick "will not return to the Clippers" and is in talks with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Brooklyn Nets.

He averaged 15 points in 78 games last season for the Los Angeles Clippers and shot 42.9% from deep.

Redick himself seemed to confirm the news, tweeting out "trust the process".

Ahead of free agency, the Sixers reportedly made it known that the organization would prefer one-year deals over long-term contracts, providing additional long-term flexibility as the build around Fultz, Simmons, Embiid and Saric continues.

Redick had been a critical piece of the Clippers efforts to break through in the Western Conference, and a fine complement next to Chris Paul in the backcourt. The Sixers are more interested in giving the 11-year vet a one-year deal, albeit one that comes with a lucrative price of at least $20 million, which is nearly three folds than what the Clippers paid Redick last season.

JJ Redick on agreement with 76ers: "It's where I wanted to be".

The Sixers would have to shell out money to get the restricted free agents in order to avoid the Pistons and Wizards, respectively, from matching the contract offers. The maximum contract, which can not be signed until the NBA's moratorium is lifted on July 6, will pay Griffin $173 million over five season. Entering the weekend, their top priorities were Denver forward Danilo Gallinari, Utah's Ingles and San Antonio's Jonathan Simmons. That's a potential playoff team right there.
