Cyborg to face Evinger at UFC 214 after Anderson pulls out
As for a potential matchup between Anderson and Justino, Okamoto noted Anderson's representatives said she is "looking forward to fighting Cyborg for a UFC title at a later date". "I think she owes me a fight".
UFC 214 is now set to be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between champion Daniel Cormier and returning ex-titleholder Jon Jones. "Maybe when Conor Mcgregor returns in December we could give the fans that fight".
"Tonya Evinger has been top 10 in the world at 135 pounds for a long time and has earned the opportunity to fight on the biggest stage. I'm coming for whoever has that belt".
Evinger (19-5, 1NC), who was originally scheduled to face Helena Kolesnyk in a featherweight contest at an Invicta FC event just a couple of weeks prior to UFC 214, has been on fire in recent years.
The 36-year-old won the vacant Invicta FC bantamweight title in July of 2015, stopping Irene Aldana in the fourth round, and has since gone on to make three successful title defences.
The fight is for the title that Germaine de Randamie was stripped of after she refused to defend her title against Justino. "My fans appreciate the fact that this fight is going to be for the belt, but the fact that the UFC had [Germaine de Randamie] as champion and not me has never been a problem for me". Both bouts took place at a catchweight of 140 pounds, with UFC 214 set to be her first trip to the Octagon as a featherweight.
So, this is a big change to the upcoming card, and Evinger deserves a ton of praise for agreeing to face one of the most feared fighters in the UFC, on one month's notice.
The showdown with Justino will be a co-main event at UFC 214 alongside the light heavyweight championship between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier.
