Trump acknowledges for first time he's under investigation

And a third tweet contended that despite the "phony Witch Hunt" - Trump capitalized both words as if the phrase is a proper noun - the economy under his watch is booming. They have tried to highlight the positive reviews he received Wednesday when he made a statesman-like appearance in the White House to address the nation after Rep. Steve Scalise was shot during a congressional baseball practice.

Trump has revealed that he thinks he is being investigated by saying on Twitter: "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!"

Mr Rosenstein has previously said that "if anything that I did winds up being relevant to his investigation then, as Director Mueller and I discussed, if there's a need from me to recuse, I will".

Trump's tweet seems to suggest he acknowledges that he is under investigation for obstruction of justice. Comey was sacked by the president on May 9 while he was overseeing the investigation into potential Russian interference into last year's election and potential collusion with the Trump presidential campaign.

The transition official spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to discuss post-election decisions publicly.

In another tweet posted about two hours earlier on Friday morning, Trump, for the second consecutive day, went directly after DOJ's Russian Federation probe, which now includes an examination of whether the president obstructed justice when asking Comey to drop a probe of his first national security adviser, Michael Flynn, or by firing Comey.

Rosenstein wrote a memo recommending May 9 Comey's firing.

Comey said he typed notes describing the conversations because he was anxious Trump "might lie" later about them.

The new allegations against Trump center on his own admission that he fired Comey because of the Russian Federation investigation, and suggestions he asked several top intelligence officials for their help altering the inquiry's direction.

He had written a memorandum to US Attorney General Jeff Sessions, criticising Mr Comey about the way in which he handled the Russian Federation investigation. An official of Trump's transition confirmed the laywer's internal order sent Thursday. Mr. Trump's lawyer has accused the Federal Bureau of Investigation of leaking material.

Canning Rosenstein would thrust Brand into the captain's chair of the Russian Federation probe, at least until the Senate confirmed a new deputy attorney general.

The White House has directed questions for details to outside legal counsel, which has not responded.

The transition order came the same day that Vice President Mike Pence's confirmed that he had hired a private lawyer to represent his interests in the expanding probe.

Donald Trump's transition team has been asked to retain records related to five former campaign associates, including former chairman Paul Manafort.

Rosenstein also noted in his testimony that Trump has the authority to fire him for any reason. He has already been subpoenaed by the House intelligence committee.
