Prosecutors to drop charges in Stanley Cup dead catfish toss

Pittsburgh Penguins’ Matt Murray left Jake Guentzel center and Brian Dumoulin celebrate after the Penguins defeated the Nashville Predators 4-1 in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Final Wednesday in Pittsburgh

Nashville Predators fan Jacob Waddell can breathe a sigh of relief, after prosecutors have reportedly made a decision to drop charges following his catfish throwing incident during Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.

They had a goal waved off.

Bonino made it 3-0, powering down the right flank and sending the puck skidding low into the center where it cannoned into the net off the covering Ekholm.

And then things settled down. Pittsburgh scored soon after to make it 3-1, a goal that was credited to Scott Wilson, who got a piece of the puck before it went off the skate of Nashville forward Vernon Fiddler and between Rinne's pads.

The game had an average audience of 3.278 million viewers on TV, which was up 27% from last year's Final between the Penguins and the San Jose Sharks. Filip Forsberg leads Nashville with eight goals, P.K. Subban has nine assists and Roman Josi has 61 shots on goal. The only area where Nashville wasn't markedly better than the defending Stanley Cup champions is the only one that really matters.

The feel-good story of the 2017 National Hockey League playoffs has been the Predators, with goaltender Pekka Rinne as the backbone for their run from No. 8 seed in the West to the Stanley Cup Final.

A mere 10 seconds into the third period, Bryan Rust fired a long-range shot that bounced off Rinne and onto Guentzel's stick for the game-winner. But also, I think we trust the leadership of the group that we have.

"We know that we have to be better, that we got outplayed in a lot of aspects of the game for stretches of time, and our expectation is higher for ourselves", Sullivan said. The first, a ricochet off Nashville defenseman Mattias Ekholm, gave the Penguins a 3-0 lead with 17 seconds left in the first period. He moved up to the third line for Game 2, but by the halfway point, Guentzel was riding shotgun on the top line with Sidney Crosby. "We gotta play a full 60, and we will next game". But they allowed three goals in the first period for just the fourth time this season, and now they trail for the first time in the Stanley Cup playoffs. At the 16:36 mark of the first period, Guentzel tied the game.

It stayed 4-1 after Pittsburgh's Matt Cullen was ruled offside following a coach's challenge of a goal by Patric Hornqvist.

In both of their losses to the Penguins this series, the Predators have allowed at least four goals, but Subban said his team is still in a good mental state, despite its season inching closer to the brink. Sheary struck 1:05 after Malkin's goal, converting a wide-open look from the side of the net.

It's Aberg's second goal of the playoffs.

"We're concerned about where the series is at", Predators captain Mike Fisher said. Two goals went off teammates and into the net, but it has not been the inspiring performance that the Predators and their fans are used to from the big Finn.

Pittsburgh also is proof that a team can rally from an 0-2 deficit to win the Stanley Cup, doing it in 2009 to beat Detroit in seven games. But Nashville entered the Stanley Cup Final playing comfortably and confidently, poise that was on display during points of the second and third periods.

From there, the Predators were rolling, with all the momentum from their three-goal comeback. He took a ton of heat for putting Murray back in the net during the Eastern Conference final after Fleury had played so well, but it was clearly the right decision, as hard as it must have been to make.
