Nintendo also announced that Pokemon Gold Version and Pokemon Silver Version, two Game Boy Color games from 1999, would be heading to the Nintendo 3DS via the virtual console. In a brief, Pokemon-themed Nintendo Direct, the company announced that there is a new game coming to the Nintendo Switch - Pokken Tournament DX.

But instead, they were told to expect Ultra Sun and Moon would only become available on 3DS from November 17. The platform holder will also be inviting players to get involved in its E3 invitational tournament as well, making it the third social competitive title to be featured as part of Nintendo's E3 line-up. The Pokemon Company developed it in conjunction with Bandai Namco, makers of the Tekken fighting games.

Players discovered the group of extradimensional Pokémon called Ultra Beasts for the first time in Sun and Moon in the Alola region. These will be enhanced versions of last year's Pokemon Sun and Moon sporting a new storyline, seemingly better graphics, and new pokemon.

Pokken Tournament DX is an updated version of the previous iteration and comes with new characters and modes for fans to enjoy.

Casey DeFreitas is an Associate Editor at IGN and will eagerly play any Pokemon-related game announced tomorrow. Reportedly coming to the Nintendo Switch, Pokemon Stars was originally planned for a summer 2017 release, and has received increasing speculation over the past year. Catch her on Twitter.
