Girl kicked out of soccer tournament for looking like a boy

"When my hair starts to grow, I put it short because I always had short hair, so I didn't like my hair long", she said.

"It's what she likes". Her father, Gerardo Hernandez, couldn't be more proud.

Mili Hernandez had helped take her team to the final of the tournament, and she is so good at soccer that she's playing with a team of 11 year olds.

The Post story said the president of the Azzurri Soccer club, which includes Mili's team, said things were made worse because a registration form accidentally listed Mili as a boy.

Mili's dad, Geraldo Hernandez, said she was crying and said she "was in shock" after her team was disqualified.

Over the weekend, Mili's team was axed from the tournament because of her looks, and her family says it's not fair.

Mili's family claims they showed Mili's insurance card to tournament organizers to prove she's a girl. "They don't have a reason to kick the whole club out", Hernandez pointed out with logic so simple even a referee can understand.

"They didn't want to listen", Cruz Hernandez said.

Springfield Soccer Club organizers refused to be interviewed by WOWT, and referred to the news station to their lawyer. Mili's family believes the team was disqualified because of the way Mili looks. She loves soccer and her short haircut. "While we are disappointed that a player was denied the opportunity to play, that decision was made by entities other than the Nebraska State Soccer Association". By Monday she was back to dribbling a soccer ball and obsessing about her favorite team, Guadalajara's Chivas.

Mili said the situation was unfair, but she wouldn't let it dampen her enthusiasm.

Moments later, Wambach said she would contact the tournament organizers herself.
