NYC Lights Up Green in Support of Paris Climate Accord

An unconscious Syrian child receives treatment at a hospital in Khan Shaykhun Idlib province following a suspected toxic gas attack

A day after President Trump announced the US would exit the Paris climate accord, top administration officials wouldn't say whether the president believes global warming is real.

She pledged her country's continued commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement in the wake of Mr Trump's withdrawal, saying the deal was a "cornerstone" of attempts to protect "our creation".

In "Great Again: How to Fix Our Crippled America", President Trump made a reference to "the mistaken belief that global climate change is being caused by carbon emissions".

Former President Barack Obama spoke out about his strong belief in the power of other nation's leaders to combat climate change, and Mayor Bill de Blasio is standing with the former president.

Vaughan joins other mayors from cities such as New York, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Sean Spicer dodged the question as well.

He added: 'As the mayor of Pittsburgh, I can assure you that we will follow the guidelines of the Paris agreement for our people, our economy and future'.

Lori Robertson, managing editor of FactCheck.Org which is a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Centre, said there was nothing in the Paris agreement that stipulates which countries can and cannot build coal plants. In the African country of Mali, many see global warming as the reason for a protracted drought.

Ever the showman, the 70-year-old Trump gave his decision a reality TV-style tease, refusing to indicate his preference either way until his announcement.

"I'm not a believer in man-made global warming", President Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt in September 2015, after launching his bid for the White House.

India's environment minister Harsh Vardhan said his country is committed to the Paris accord "irrespective" of the position of other nations.

"Now we can dump it all on him and American imperialism", Putin said.

Trump announced America is "getting out" of a deal he said imposed "draconian" burdens that would cost the United States millions of jobs and billions in cold hard cash.

"Our position on climate change has not changed ... we publicly advocate for climate action", said General Motors.

Through her involvement with the B Team, a not-for-profit grouping of worldwide business figures committed to the idea that business should be a driving force for social, environmental and economic benefit, she knew corporate America did not agree with Trump. Pruitt said when asked about Trump's climate views.

What is the Paris Climate Accord and what does it do?

Tesla Inc Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk and Walt Disney Co CEO Robert Iger reacted by leaving White House advisory councils after Trump's move.

Cities, states, and businesses need to build on this legacy and make the case to Americans of all stripes, including workers who may be concerned about impacts on jobs and the economy, that fighting climate change is essential.
