Iranian president calls US relations 'a curvy road'

Rouhani a cleric whose administration struck the 2015 landmark nuclear deal with world powers decisively won a second term in Friday's election

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said on Monday Tehran would continue its ballistic missile program, state television reported, striking a defiant note after strong criticism of the Islamic Republic from U.S. President Donald Trump.

This is not to say that the Iranian people are in favour of Rouhani, a man who executed almost 4,000 people in just four years, boasts about Iran's support for the dictator Bashar al-Assad, and now presides over an Iran where millions live in poverty; just that Khamenei felt that Raisi would cause the biggest protests.

In fact, most of the militant groups USA troops have fought in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere since the September 11, 2001 attacks on NY and Washington, such as al-Qaida, Islamic State and the Taliban, are Sunni Muslims who consider Shiite Iran their enemy.

"In the 12th round of presidential elections, people marked an incomparable 45-million turnout for the first time in Iran's history", Dr Rouhani continued.

Iran and Azerbaijan enjoy good relations and coordination, said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, who was re-elected in the May 19 presidential election. "Under different circumstances, USA media would have been alerted", said Mr Hammond.

"Those who have fought terrorists are the Syrian and Iraqi people".

Turkish president also called for quick formation of high strategic council for relations between Iran and Turkey with presence of the two presidents.

Iran also accused the USA of arming "dangerous terrorists" a direct reference to the $110 billion arms deal Trump signed with Saudi Arabia's, King Salman, Saturday during his visit to the Kingdom. He signed a $110 billion defense deal with Saudi Arabia during the visit aimed at addressing the kingdom's defense needs while scaling back USA military involvement in specific operations.

"Those who provide consultations or advice to the Americans, unfortunately, they are the rulers who either push America awry or with money, they just buy some people in America", Rouhani said in response to a question by The Associated Press.

Washington and Tehran are still frequently on opposing sides, most notably in Syria, where Iran supports the government of President Bashar Assad.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif accused Trump of being "hand in hand with the supporters of terrorism, human rights victimised in the dances of swords".

The U.S. has used numerous measures against Iran in the past 40 years, all leading to failure, Rouhani said.

Washington last week imposed new sanctions on Iran, over its ballistic missile programme.

"Everything becomes irrelevant" if Trump tears up or tries to modify the historic agreement, as that would scare off investors, said Nuseibeh, the London-based analyst.
