Aggregating the last nine national surveys released between May 13 through May 24, including the Fox News poll, RealClearPolitics found that Trump now has an average approval rating of 40 percent while an average 54 percent disapprove of his job performance.

President Donald Trump's approval rating fell sharply this week as some of the folks who voted for him in droves have begun to back away from the leader who has been plagued by controversy during his brief but rocky tenure in the White House, according to a new poll this week.

The poll found 53 percent of voters said they were prepared to re-elect him next year, compared to 36 percent who preferred someone else. According to the survey, the president's job approval rating declined to 45 percent now from 49 percent in March.

Meanwhile, according to another poll, Trump's first overseas trip did not help his approval rating.

Further, even in the Rasmussen poll - which by far is more favorable to Trump than any other - a majority of Americans disapprove of his job performance. About 54 percent of registered voters and 63 percent of independents maintained their disapproval over Trump's move of firing Comey.

The RealClearPolitics polling average, which includes Rasmussen, shows the president with 39.9 percent approval and 54.1 percent disapproval. However, 52 percent of voters said they did not think Russian Federation and Trump's campaign conspired during the 2016 presidential election, which swayed the poll in favor of the 70-year-old.

More than two thirds, 68 percent, said that Russian interference in the election is "very important" or "somewhat important".

The poll found that a slight majority (55%, with a plus-or-minus two percentage point margin of error) say they feel nervous about the future.
