Trump asked to turn over any Comey tapes

The White House has provided no set timeline for the process of replacing Mr Comey, who Mr Trump described as an incompetent "showboat" and "grandstander".

Trump has been openly critical of Spicer to his inner circle and is reportedly considering bringing in TV producers from Fox News to make White House briefings into more razzle-dazzle affairs in keeping with the president's previous job as a reality TV game show host.

The South Carolina Republican sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

"You can't be cute about tapes. If there are any tapes of this conversation, they need to be turned over", he said. Corey Lewandowski, Mr. Trump's 2016 campaign manager until he fired him, repeatedly groused to friends that he was forced to absorb all of the criticism for the campaign's practice of confining reporters at rallies in small pens.

The committee is investigating Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election and any potential connections between Russian Federation, the Trump campaign and some of the campaign's top aides.

Democrats have accused Mr Trump of attempting to thwart the FBI's probe and have called for some type of independent inquiry into the matter.

Mr. Trump is growing increasingly dissatisfied with the performance of his chief of staff, Reince Priebus; the communications director, Michael Dubke; and Mr. Spicer, a Priebus ally, according to a half-dozen West Wing officials who said the president was considering the most far-reaching shake-up of his already tumultuous term.

"We have got to make sure that these tapes, if they exist, don't mysteriously disappear", Warner said, adding that he hopes to have Comey testify in a public hearing before his committee. He also sent out a tweet in which he appeared to threaten Comey by releasing recordings of their conversations.

Clapper didn't say that there was "no collusion", but rather that he had seen "no evidence" of collusion.

Mark Warner said Sunday that President Trump firing the director of the FBI appears as an attempt to squash the agency's investigation into whether the his presidential campaign team colluded with Russian Federation during the 2016 elections.

One associate describes Comey as being uncomfortable with the January dinner with President Donald Trump in which Trump is reported to have asked Comey for his loyalty - something Trump has flatly denied.

The first candidate to arrive was Alice Fisher, a high-ranking Justice Department official in the George W. Bush administration.

Four candidates to be the bureau's director were in line Saturday for the first interviews with Attorney General Jeff Sessions and his deputy, Rod Rosenstein, at Justice Department headquarters.

A Morning Consult/Politico poll conducted last week found that 62% of Republicans and just 16% of Democrats thought Trump was right to fire Comey, while 58% of Republicans and just 9% of Democrats told NBC they approved of Trump's decision.

"The key is getting some of our Republican colleagues to join us", Mr Schumer said. "You have these tremendous - the level of hatred toward him, especially during that period of time with Hillary Clinton where he gave her a free ride", Trump said.
